Selenite wands are a gypsum-based mineral. (CaSO4 · 2H2O) Gypsum has different names based on, formation and overall clarity of the crystal. Selenite is usually used to refer to the transparent varieties including fishtail selenite. Although it is used interchangeably with Selenite the next type is actually called Satin Spar or Satin Spar Selenite. However, this type is not transparent but fibrous and white. With the last type being Alabaster much less transparent and sometimes not crystallized in fine-grain masses. Derived from the Greek word σελήυη meaning moon or moonlight the name speaks to the color of the crystal and the way it emits and carries light. Selenite wands are used by many to cleanse and recharge their other stones and crystals as it is said to have cleansing and recharging properties. See all our gems and jewelry here!
